I cannot believe that January is over already,

Both the St Helena Island and Rio Races are done and dusted, well done to all our members who took part in these big racing events, some of the racing kept us on the edge of our seats, Anton Nel (Talisman) told us that he stayed awake most of the night to watch Ray of Light and Atalanta race to the finish line, Ray of Light finished about an hour ahead of Atalanta, Well Done to Michael & Heidi Kavanagh and crew on a great race with some awesome fishing too!!

Well Done to Kevin Webb and crew on Banjo who took line honours in the St Helena Island race, the first few days of the race they experienced challenging weather conditions which held them back a bit, but as soon as it calmed down, they shifted gears and flew off to take line honours!!

We had a fairly quiet month at SBYC, our racing which was planned for Saturday 28th January was cancelled due to the gale force wind, we’ll plan this event on a date to be advised,

We met with Colonel Hamilton and Captain Prins of the Sea Border Patrol on Friday 27 January, we discussed the current security issues and what SBYC is putting in place to try deter the criminal activity in our area.

Col Hamilton is pleased to work with SBYC, with trying to reduce the sea-based crime in the area, he told us that his team will work closely with us and will be increasing their patrols at night, he also explained their challenges regarding funding and load-shedding, SBYC has offered our full support towards the SAPS Sea Border Patrol unit and will assist wherever we can. We will be having monthly meetings with them to discuss any new issues or security plans. I’ll keep you all updated!

See you at the Club!
