Cruise to LBYC and Shark Bay: Sat 11th/Sun 12th November:

Mufaro, a Flamenca 25 owned by Pieter du Plessis, was alongside the jetty getting prepared for the weekend cruise.  Numerous boxes, bags, and crates were carried down to the yacht and stowed carefully aboard. He had two strapping crew, Wessel and Riaan. The waterline was visibly lower. Riaan took his Stugeron and Wessel emptied his flask. They were first at LBYC and tied up to the inner jetty. A moderate northwester filled Sundowner Rose’s asymmetrical from harbour jetty, up the channel all the way to the LBYC moorings (thanks Tryston for getting it right). Charlotte joined soon after, both picking up club moorings. At the club we were again offered their blue room off the bar. Hake calamari combo was the popular menu choice – a generous portion with chips or salad.

Rigel then joined and we motorsailed down to the Shark Bay anchorage … keeping close to Neil of Coldplay’s course he’d put into my chartplotter! Now 4 yachts at anchor as the wind dropped and a colourful sunset followed. All ascended on Sundowner Rose for drinks sitting on the trampoline and foredeck – the advantage of s p a c e. I politely asked Pieter about their sleeping arrangements in the limited space left on board. I was assured all was in hand, but they had forgotten to bring the braai meat from the fridge.

After their intimate night on board, all Mufaro’s crew took a morning swim and after breakfast most left before the tide dropped too low. No wind had the advantage of no buzzing kite and board surfers all around. Rigel and S Rose then spent the rest of the day at anchor just NE of Schaapen Island. This is actually a lovely spot to view all the activity – charter boats, hired kayaks, fishing vessels, board surfers … and no jet and water skiers around!

….With thanks to Saskia!!

Hope to see you all at Dassen on the 16th December.
