Opening Cruise

Our second “Welcoming the Whales – whale migrations along the Southern Africa Coast” was held at SBYC on Friday 22 evening. A very interesting, informative and amusing talk was given by Dr Simon Elwen, Director of Sea Search Research and Conservation and the Namibian Dolphin Project, Department of Zoology and Botany of Stellenbosch University, one of Southern Africa’s leading whale and dolphin biologists and a friend of SBYC. He and his team launch their RIB at the Club when going out on their trips. The talk was well supported with around 40 members and guests and was followed with soup and snacks…

We were honoured to host the new Commanding Officer of SAS Saldanha, Captain Berlina Madonsela, at the Club on Thursday 3 March. It was a pleasure to meet her and some of her executive team including Luigi, together with Andre and his team, some of the Sea Cadets and their parents.

It was great to further strengthen our relationship and we look forward to helping develop the Sea Cadets for their futures. We presented Captain Madonsela with an SBYC burgee and were surprised and honoured to be presented with an SAS Saldanha “Coat of Arms” shield and a very special clock from the Sea Cadets in return!!

We will find a proper place in which to display these treasures!
